Elvera (Betty) Reinike Menard, age 98, passed peacefully in her home, Friday, January 28, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Betty was born on October 15, 1923, in Long Beach, MS, and has been a lifelong resident of Biloxi, MS. She had many talents, but her sewing and cooking were unmatched. Betty was blessed with the gift of gab. She met no strangers and always knew just what to say to put your mind at ease. Everywhere she went she spread nothing but smiles, laughter, and a sense of warmth that will be so dearly missed.
Betty and her husband worked a family business, Menard’s Grocery, on Back Bay for 30 years. She was known as “Betty” by her coworkers at Bradford O’Keefe, where she was a devoted and dedicated receptionist for 25 years. To her family, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend known as “Nenard.”
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Albertha Reinike; sisters, Alma Rose, Emily Norwood, Catherine Pique, Peggy Parker; and husband, Peter L.J. Menard Sr. which she was married to for 64 years.
She is survived by her daughters, Eileen Dznowski, Dean (Mike) Haggerty, Jimmie (Keith) Quigley; and son, Peter L.J “Jay” (Paula) Menard, Jr.; grandchildren, Jill McKee, Jodi Ray, Brent Quigley, Dr. Rae Quigley, Mikie Love, Dr. Deani McVadon, Jaymi Ferrell, Brandon Bishop, Tara Rundell; great-grandchildren, Christian McKee, Madison Ray, Hunter Ray, Haylee Ray, Noah McKee, Cohen Love, McKayla Love, Reagan Ferrell, Madison Ferrell, Kennedy Ferrell, Serenity Ferrell, Britton Rundell, Greyson Trahan, and Hunter Bishop.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to Connie Reece, Fran Dufrene, and Cannon Hospice for making this last journey of her life beautiful and loving.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Humane Society of South MS (hssm.org) and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org). Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life mass at Our Lady of Fatima Church on Monday, February 7, 2022, where friends may visit from 10:30-11:30a.m. followed by a mass at 11:30a.m. Burial will follow at Southern Memorial Park. Bradford-O'Keefe is honored to serve the family of Elvera "Betty" Menard.
