Elwood (Woody) Anthony Cavalier, 76, of Biloxi, MS died Tuesday, July 12, 2011 in Gulfport. He was a native of Biloxi and was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church where he had been involved in fundraising activities for many, many years. He was employed with the Veterans Administration, having retired from there in 1989 after 30 years service. He was in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a member of the Council 9409 Knight's of Columbus. Woody was active in the Krewe of Harlequins, having served as King, Court Member and Ball Captain.
Woody was preceded in death by his mother, Inez Borries Cavalier Conovich; father, Gus Cavalier Sr.; his brother, Gus Cavalier Jr. all of Biloxi; his paternal grandparents, Ernest Caballero and Aloisia Hebert of Donaldsonville, LA; his maternal grandparents, Charles A. Borries and Laura Mae Lamey of Biloxi and his brother-in-law, Thomas L. O'Grady of Biloxi.
He is survived by his sisters, Barbara Cavalier and Bernadette O'Grady of Biloxi; his brother, Wendell Cavalier Sr. (Julia) of Pensacola, FL; nephews, Daniel Cavalier and Joel (Laurie) Cavalier , Baron (Stacey), Kevin (Wendy) and Sean (Katie) O'Grady, Wendell (Roxanna) Cavalier Jr., Drew and Brandon Cavalier and nieces, Karyn (Kevin) Dew and Paige Cavalier as well as great nephews and nieces.
A Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, July 16, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Friends may visit from 9:30 a.m. until mass time. Interment will follow in Biloxi City Cemetery.
