Emily Vivian Meaut Demoruelle, age 88, of Biloxi, MS, passed away on March 17, 2012, after a brief illness. Mrs. Demoruelle, a lifelong Biloxian, was born June 27, 1923, to Edwin Louis Meaut and Annie Vivian Catchot Meaut. She was of the Roman Catholic Faith and a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cathedral Parish. Emily graduated from Biloxi High School in 1941 where she was a star player of the basketball team. After high school, Emily worked at K. A. F. B. Base Supply. She was a long time member of the Sunkist Ladies Golf Club playing at the Sunkist Country Club for many years. Emily was a very active member of the Young Matrons Mardi Gras Carnival Krewe for numerous years. She was a long time, enthusiastic Poll Worker for Harrison County and the City of Biloxi until 2010. Many will remember her as an extremely dedicated walker and animal advocate. Emily and her husband, Louis, displayed a special interest in their community by volunteering and participating in a number of community projects and by supporting church activities. Mrs. Demoruelle was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Louis Warren Demoruelle; her daughter, Carol Sue Demoruelle; her parents, Edwin Louis Meaut and Annie Vivian Catchot Meaut; her brothers, Edwin Louis Meaut, Jr. and sister-in-law, Lovie; Bermond Joseph Meaut, Sr. and sister-in-law, Mary Ellen; her nephews Michael Meaut and Bermond “Tiger” Meaut, Jr.; and her precious pets, dogs, Dixie and ChiChi. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Kay Demoruelle (& Luke) Scianna, Jr.; her grand-daughter, Emilie Scianna; her nephew Ronnie (& Polly) Meaut; her niece Patricia ”Patsy” (& Jim) Ottensen; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; her lifelong friend Hazel Jones and family; her dear friends and neighbors, Stephanie P. Rosetti and David K. Smart; and many other close friends. Emily’s family wishes to express appreciation to Odyssey Hospice, Nurse Stella, CNA Moonie and their staff, and The Biloxi Living Community Center and their staff for their excellent care and compassion. Special gratitude to Dr. Regina Mills and staff: Brenda, Chenell and Judy; and Dr. John Mallett, Paige and his staff at the Biloxi OB-GYN Clinic. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers Memorial contributions be made to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, www.bestfriends.org/, or The Humane Society of South Mississippi, http://hssm.org/ , 2615 25th Ave. Gulfport, MS 39501. Visitation will be at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 675 Howard Avenue, in Biloxi on Monday, March 19, 2012, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Nativity B.V.M. Cathedral Parish, 870 Howard Avenue, Biloxi, MS 39530, where friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Biloxi City Cemetery.
