Mr. Ernest "Speck" "Sarge" Horner, Jr., age 86, of Ocean Springs, MS., died Tuesday, August 29, 2006, in Gautier, MS. Mr. Horner was a native of Jackson, TN., grew up in Bogalusa, La., and was a resident of Ocean Springs since 1967. He retired from the US Army after 25 years and was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He also retired from Ingalls Shipbuilding, was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ocean Springs, the Elks Lodge #2501, member and former president of the Mississippi Horseshoe Pitch Association, and an avid fan of the Ocean Springs High School Greyhounds and MS. Gulf Coast Community College Bulldogs football, baseball and basketball teams. Mr. Horner was preceded in death by his parents, Edna W. and Ernest F. Horner, Sr. and three brothers, Thomas, Raymond and William Horner. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Ursula Horner of Ocean Springs, MS., sister, Kathleen H. Beard of Brandon, MS., and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 31, 2006, from 6-8 PM, at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. On Friday, September 1, 2006, there will be a 9:30 AM chapel service in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery.
