After he graduated from high school, he went to Purdue college for a short time, and then enlisted into the Navy in 1968. If you ask him how long did he serve in the military, he would always tell people, “25 years, six months and 10 days. He retired here at Gulfport at the Gulfport Navy base in 1993. In 1995 he met Shirley Seymour, and in the year 2000, they were married. They loved one another deeply. He was such a great, wonderful, loving, caring, and strong person.
When he got out of the Navy, he had various jobs and loved working at Keesler Air Force Base in the commissary for eight years. He loved all the people out there that he worked with. He loved going to pawn shops and yard sales and piddling around with cars, and he loved his cats, Kevin, and Little Man! We cannot forget them. He loved his church, First Baptist Church of Orange Grove. That was the last place that he was able to go to. We would like to thank all the members for their prayers and support through this time of need. We love all of y’all so very much. We would like to thank the crew at Inhabit Home and Hospice Care. They did a wonderful job taking care of Gene. Also, to all the doctors and nurses that took very good care of Gene.
A special thanks to Bradford O’Keefe, especially Jeff O’Keefe Junior for all his special care he did for the family. We really appreciate it.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to First Baptist Church of Orange Grove.
