Eugene Rominger

Gulfport

CPO, Gene Rominger, 78, beloved husband, father and brother, passed from this earth to his eternal home in Heaven on November 9, 2023 at home. He was born on June 6, 1945 in New Jersey, but was raised in Indiana.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Eugene O’Neill and Sophie Marcella Zwolinski Rominger; a brother, Glen A Rominger; a sister, JoAnn Morrett and a stepson, Robert “Robby” Seymour.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Shirley M Rominger; his only daughter, Tanya Ann Rominger and his grandson, Ethan Bradley of Nashville, Tennessee.  Also, his stepsons, Jeremy Edwards of Wales, UK, Joshua Seymour (Chelsea) of Villa Rica, Georgia, Joseph Brett Seymour of Gulfport, Mississippi; his granddaughters, Cierra and Alea Seymour of Gulfport, Mississippi; grandsons, Roman, and Noah Seymour, a great grandson, Braxton Sandberg; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins; his brother, James E Rominger (Mary) of Lexington, Indiana and sisters, Carol J Kelly of Indianapolis, Indiana and Karen S Taylor (Robert) of Dublin, Virginia.

After he graduated from high school, he went to Purdue college for a short time, and then enlisted into the Navy in 1968.  If you ask him how long did he serve in the military, he would always tell people, “25 years, six months and 10 days.  He retired here at Gulfport at the Gulfport Navy base in 1993.  In 1995 he met Shirley Seymour, and in the year 2000, they were married. They loved one another deeply. He was such a great, wonderful, loving, caring, and strong person.

When he got out of the Navy, he had various jobs and loved working at Keesler Air Force Base in the commissary for eight years. He loved all the people out there that he worked with. He loved going to pawn shops and yard sales and piddling around with cars, and he loved his cats, Kevin, and Little Man! We cannot forget them.  He loved his church, First Baptist Church of Orange Grove. That was the last place that he was able to go to.  We would like to thank all the members for their prayers and support through this time of need.  We love all of y’all so very much. We would like to thank the crew at Inhabit Home and Hospice Care. They did a wonderful job taking care of Gene. Also, to all the doctors and nurses that took very good care of Gene.

A special thanks to Bradford O’Keefe, especially Jeff O’Keefe Junior for all his special care he did for the family. We really appreciate it.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to First Baptist Church of Orange Grove.
