Eunice Dolores Jones

Eunice Dolores Jones, age 74 of Ocean Springs, died Tuesday, August 3, 2010 in Ocean Springs where she had lived for 42 years. She was a wife and mother and retired as an administrative secretary at Keesler. She was preceded in death by husband, Lawrence T. Jones in 1976 and son, Michael D. Jones in 2009. Survivors include daughters, Barbara Jones and Linda Jones both of Mobile; Larry Jones of Ventura, CA; and David Jones of Ocean Springs; sister, Judy Willoughby of Scottsboro, AL and five grandchildren. Mrs. Jones was the third of five children born to Mamie Williams and Joseph Jefferson Simpson. She was born August 16, 1935, in Live Oak, FL. Sister, Jean Stanfield and brothers, Wyatt Simpson and Joe Simpson preceded her in death. Among her many jobs, she was a cigar tobacco roller and a tango instructor before beginning a Civil Service career in Washington, D.C., that took her to military bases in Germany, New Jersey and finally Biloxi. She had a gift for making others feel special and solving problems. Her hobbies included playing cards and making friends. Her children marveled at her resilience with late-stage health problems that should have ended her life years earlier. And they were especially proud of how she continued to educate herself. Late in life she went back to school and earned her degree at USM. Services will be Thursday, August 5, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. where friends may visit from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. Interment will follow in D'Iberville Memorial Park.
