Evelyn Florence McEwen Davis

Evelyn McEwen Davis, 83, of Vancleave, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2007. Mrs. Davis had been a resident of Vancleave since 1942. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Vancleave, a former State Grand Officer of Eastern Star, and a graduate of University of Southern Mississippi. While playing basketball for McComb High School, Evelyn was selected to be on the 1940 All-State team. During her early teaching career, Evelyn coached girls basketball at Vancleave High School. She was selected to serve on the Student Advisory Board from 1968-1970 while at the University of Southern Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dudley and Lula McEwen; daughter, Patricia Cole; sisters, Marie McEwen, Frances Hall and Lucille Hill and a brother, D. E. McEwen. Survivors include her spouse Henry W. Davis, daughter Carolyn (Dennis) Freeman of Vancleave; son, Wayne (Diny) Davis of Vancleave; sister, Mildred Woods of Niceville, FL and grandchildren, Logan Freeman, Brittany Freeman and Brandi Davis all of Vancleave. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Vancleave. The service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the church. Burial to follow in Vancleave #1. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.
