Evelyn Beatrice Daughtery Reyer

Evelyn Beatrice Daughtery Reyer, age 79, of Gulfport, MS, passed peacefully from this world into the arms of the Lord on Monday, October 4th, 2021 in Chesapeake, VA. Evelyn, treasured wife to her husband, Albert "Sam" Reyer; loving mother to her 4 boys, Jerry (Colette), David, Doug (Laura) , and George "Casper" Vierling; beloved Mamaw to her granddaughter, Dana Lawhorn (Derek Martin) and grandsons, Daniel and Dale Vierling; and World's Best Great-Mamaw to her great grand-babies, Victor Lawhorn and Mira Martin, was a lifelong native of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Evelyn was born in Biloxi, on July 7th 1942, and lovingly raised by her dearly departed parents Addie M. and Grady J. Daughtery. She was a dedicated sister to her late brother, James "Jimmy" (Jacqueline) Daughtery and her surviving sisters, Dorothy Daughtery (James "Jim") Steele and JoAnn (Mark) Chesser; and an ever-proud aunt, great-aunt, and grand-aunt to their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who she loved dearly. Evelyn was a member of the Retired Education Personnel of Mississippi, having received her Bachelor’s in Education from William Carey University and retiring from Harrison County School District after 22 years of service. She adored each and every one of her students, and touched the hearts and minds of many. To this day, she kept many letters, mementos and gifts of the elementary students who graced her classrooms over the years, every single one important to her. Evelyn was a devout Christian who loved her church and congregation, she was an active member at Bethel Lutheran for 26 years, having volunteered frequently as an usher and communion assistant, as well as serving as Volunteer Coordinator following Hurricane Katrina, from 2005-2008, and at Bethel Clinic for many additional years. Evelyn was a member of the church choir, WELCA, supporter of Lutheran World Relief program, and a helping hand of The Busy Bee quilters. She was always faithfully dedicated to the service of helping those in need. Evelyn had very recently relocated to Chesapeake, VA, where she and her husband Sam had been able to enjoy spending close quality time with their granddaughter, grandson-in-law, and great-grandchildren, and making new friendships with their neighbors. Evelyn never met a stranger and immediately welcomed everyone into her heart as a friend and fellow child of God. Evelyn was always a living Guardian Angel to those who loved her and sought comfort, love, and safety in her embrace during her time here on earth. Now her family finds solace and peace in knowing that she can continue to serve as an Official Guardian Angel from her eternal home in Heaven above us. Evelyn will be laid to rest in her longtime home of Gulfport, MS on Saturday, October 9th. The family will receive friends at Bethel Lutheran Church, 2521 Pass Rd, Biloxi, MS 39531 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service will begin at 11, and an immediate procession and final dedication will be held at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, 8910 Carl Legett Road. Gulfport, Mississippi, 39503. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport, is honored to serve the Reyer family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to the Lutheran World Relief Program, whose mission meant so very much to Evelyn.
