Evelyn M. Van Court of Ocean Springs, MS., died peacefully on Monday, January 23, 2006, in Ocean Springs.
She was a lifelong resident of the community, a graduate of Ocean Springs High School, and was active in the yearly reunions until her health failed. She was a charter member of the Tullis-Toledano Foundation and was active in the Ocean Springs 1699 Historical Society. Evelyn went to Washington D.C. and worked as a secretary in the Department of the Navy. She then returned to the coast and worked at the Biloxi Veterans Administration until her retirement. After retiring, she, her mother, and her sister Louise, traveled to many of the 50 states. In 1978 she began working for the First Baptist Church of Ocean Springs as a receptionist and continued for 25 years until failing health forced her to retire. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a member of the Lydia Sunday School class.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her father, Daniel Bernard Van Court, Sr., mother, Marie Antionette Friar Van Court, brothers, Daniel B. Van Court, Jr., George A. Van Court, Sr., and Arnold J. Van Court, and sister, Louise (Lyt) Van Court.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and her dear friends Larry and Rita Futral and Willie Cologne.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 27, 2006, from 10-11 AM, with an 11 AM church service, all at the First Baptist Church of Ocean Springs. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be sent to the First Baptist Church of Ocean Springs Building Fund, 602 Washington Avenue, Ocean Springs, MS., 39564, or to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 638, Gulfport, MS., 39502.
The family extends special thanks to Alternative Personal Care and their devoted staff, Southern Care Hospice, and Dr. Louis Rubenstein and his wife, Vicki.
