Fred Herman Letort

On November 23, 2006, surrounded by his family, F. H., age 83, was taken home by God's angels. He was welcomed by his parents, Henry Fredrick Letort and Ellen Bullock Letort of St. Martin. He now joins his sisters, Priscilla Letort Brown, Audrey Letort Pownall, and brothers, Edwin Letort, Otis Letort, Lavern Letort, and Kenneth Letort, in a grand family reunion. Left to cherish his beloved memories is his best friend and wife of sixty years, Vonceil Goff Letort; children, Michael Letort, Kim Letort and his wife, Jonanna Lee Letort, Penny Letort Sorrells and her husband, Donnie Sorrells, daughter-in-law, Nancy Ryan Letort, and sister, Iris Letort Holloway, will always have their own beloved moments they shared with Dad. Fred's life became more enriched as his family grew. To remember and carry on his funny family stories are grandchildren, Michael Letort, Cullen Letort and his wife, Tara Stubbs Letort, Kimberly Letort Trosclair and her husband, Shane Trosclair, Christopher Letort, Melissa Sorrells, Ashley Sorrells, and Kellie Sorrells. God blessed Fred with two beautiful great-grandchildren who completed his life on earth, Kathryn "Kate" Trosclair and Tyler Sorrells. One could see the happiness and joy that he had for his family everytime they were in his presence. Mr. Letort was a lifelong resident of St. Martin and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a graduate of St. Martin High School and played basketball for one of the Yellow Jacket's first teams. After high school Fred joined the military and served in World War II and the Korean War. As a Chief Warren Officer, Mr. Letort received two Purple Hearts in World War II. Later, Mr. Letort retired from the Biloxi National Guard and the Seabee Base where he worked for thirty years. During his retirement years, Mr. Letort enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his garden. He would "piddle" around his work shed making unique items for family and friends. Mr. Letort was known for his walking canes and would give them out to special friends, both old and new. Visitation will be Sunday, November 26, 2006, from 6 until 9 p.m. with recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church where friends may visit one hour before service time. Interment will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery with full military honors. Pallbearers are grandsons, Michael Letort, Cullen Letort, Christopher Letort, and Shane Trosclair, and nephews, Mayor A. J. Holloway and Presley Letort. The family prefers memorials be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 10446 Lemoyne Boulevard, D'Iberville, MS 39540.
