Frederick A. Fountain, Sr., 76 of D'Iberville went to his Heavenly Home Monday, July 20, 2009 in D'Iberville. Mr. Fountain graduated early from Notre Dame in 1949 at the age of 17 due to the National Guard mobilization because of the Korean conflict. He was commissioned in 1956 after he qualified to become an officer and was recommended for the commission by the battery commander. Mr. Fountain was a Lt. in the Army Battery C, 115th AAA Bn., a Biloxi National Guard Unit. He attended barber school in New Orleans, married Joyce Husley September 5, 1954 and had 4 children. Throughout his life he touched numerous lives. He helped organize the first Girls Soft Ball League in D'Iberville and coached D'Iberville Little League and Pee Wee Football. Mr. Fountain worked for Gulf National Life Insurance/Bradford-O'Keefe for 33 years before he retired. He was on the D'Iberville planning commission for 7 years, an active member of Sacred Heart Parish and a lifetime member of D'Iberville Community Club. He was an avid fisherman and gardner who loved life and people. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. Mr. Fountain was preceded in death by his parents, Freddie L. and Fannie Fountain and his grandson, T.J. Thomas. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Joyce Husley Fountain of D'Iberville, his children, Myrna L. Favre of Gulfport, Robin E. Thomas of Saucier, Christa P. Glenn of Biloxi and Frederick A. Fountain, Jr. of D'Iberville, one sister, Jacqueline Fancher of Ocean Springs, 9 grandchildren, Amy, Christopher, Jillian, Beaux, Lauren, Haley, Freddie-O, Nick and Victoria; 6 great-grandchildren, Alexis, Blake, Jacob, Arielle, Dillon and Raylon. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 22, 2009, 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes, Biloxi. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, July 23, 2009, 12:00 noon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church where friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.
