Frederick Russell Beattie, 94, passed away on Saturday May 20, 2006 to join his loving wife of 73 years, Maude Beattie.
Mr. Beattie was born on July 20, 1911 in Albany, Indiana to Joseph Ulrich and Lota Mae Beattie. He was a resident of Gulfport for 63 years. During those years Mr. Beattie was very active within the community and he never met a stranger. He was a member of First Baptist Church Gulfport and a charter member of the Scrap Iron Sunday School class. He was a member of the Century Club of Gulfport. He was an avid sportsman, participating in the Gulfport Grid Iron Club for many years. He was a member of both Sunkist Golf Club and the Great Southern Golf Club. Mr. Beattie will be remembered mostly, by many, for his love of fishing and hunting.
In 1949 Mr. Beattie opened and operated, with his wife, Pam’s Drive-in on West Beach in Gulfport. He then opened Beattie Monument Co. in Gulfport, where he retired in 1978.
Mr. Beattie is preceded in death by his wife Maude Beattie, his two sons, William Joseph Beattie and Jack Beattie, his parents and two sisters. He is survived by his daughter Pam Barrineau, husband, Tim, daughter-in-law, Jeannie Beattie, 4 grandchildren Nicole Matthews, husband Tom, Jeff Beattie, wife Angie, Joey Beattie and Jill Beattie, two great-grandchildren, Russell Beattie and Cameron Beattie and nephew William E. Miller, wife Ronda.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at Handsboro Presbyterian Church, Gulfport beginning at 2:00pm with visitation 1 hour prior. Burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Gulfport.
