Mr. G. W. Scarborough, a 33rd Degree Mason and Past Master of Magnolia Lodge F&A M, died Sunday, February 17, 2008, in Biloxi.
G. W. was a native of the coast. He formerly worked at Swift and Co. and Armour Co. He and his brother, Pete, ran filling stations on Maine Street and Howard Avenue. He was called into service in 1941 to serve in the U. S. Coast Guard and was discharged with a disability. He and his brothers ran the Scarborough Wholesale Grocery until they sold it. He worked at Gulf Coast Warehouse until he retired. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Biloxi, Ann Grayson Chapter No. 50, Order of Eastern Star, York Rite of Biloxi, Scottish Rite Bodies of Gulfport, Joppa Temple A.A.O.D. in Biloxi.
G. W. was preceded in death by his parents, Peter Newton and Carrie Richards Scarborough; brothers, Frank Scarborough, P. N. Scarborough, Jr. and Luther Scarborough; sisters, Lena Deen, Nettie Hammett and Burt Scarborough. Survivors include his wife, Miriam Wallace Scarborough; sister, Sadye Caraway of Gulfport; nephew, Michael (Ann) Scarborough, and other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at 10:15 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Biloxi where friends may visit one hour before service time. Interment with Masonic Rites will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled children, 3100 Samfort Avenue, Shreveport, LA 71103.
