Gary Jordan, age 70, originally from Ocean Springs, MS, and then Scottsboro, AL, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on June 22, 2019.
He was born in Hattiesburg, MS on August 17, 1948. He later moved to Louisiana, where he became a proud part of the Gonzales High School class of 1966. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1967, served a tour of duty in Vietnam, and was honorably discharged in 1971 as a master sergeant. He received a master's degree in Biochemistry from Delta State University and began his teaching career first in Cleveland then Mt. Olive, MS. In 1976, he moved to Ocean Springs where he taught and coached football, track, and soccer at Ocean Springs High School from 1976-1984. He left teaching to become head operator at the Chevron refinery in Pascagoula, MS. After retiring in 2008, he moved to Scottsboro and worked with the Scottsboro City School system, enjoying over seven years as an elementary school bus driver in his spare time. He spent the last two years of his life at home with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Laurie; he has 3 children from his first marriage, Patrick (Stephanie) Jordan, Joy Crawford, Jamie (Brian) Jeffreys,and 6 grandchildren; he was also the proud father to 2 step-daughters, Ashley (Jake) Drum and Emily (Matt) Brown, as well as 1 grandson.
Visitation will be on Saturday, July 6, 2019, from 1pm until 2pm, with a 2pm Memorial Service, all at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Gary's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Shriner’s Hospital for Children, or The American Cancer Society.
