George Thomas Bordeaux

George Thomas Bordeaux passed away August 13, 2024 at the age of 75 to be with his beloved wife, Sandy. Born December 17, 1948 in Brookings, SD to Frank Bordeaux and Juanita Bozied, George moved with his family to Gulfport as a child. He attended Gulfport High School and started working at an early age. From July 1968 until June 1970, he served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and was awarded the Purple Heart. In June 1974, George joined the Gulfport Fire Department. He was named “Firefighter of the Year” in 1980 and “Gulfport Outstanding Citizen” in 1981. During his early years in the fire service, he also ran a small plumbing business, Super Rooter. In 1991, George was named Gulfport Fire Chief, where he remained until 1998. Beginning in 1998, he spent a year as assistant fire chief with the Biloxi Fire Department.

 George married the love of his life, Sandra “Sandy” Bristow, in July 1973, and together they had three boys. George was a hardworking, dedicated husband and father and later, a great “Poppa” to his grandkids. His retirement years were spent caring for his wife until her death in 2017, with his sons and grandchildren close by. His quiet, stern demeanor was offset by his quick wit and kind ways. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, including his baby sister, his nieces and his devoted nurse, Beth Buford, who spent the last year helping to care for him.

 George was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita Bozied; father, Frank Bordeaux; and siblings, John and Paul, twins who died shortly after birth; Samuel “Sammy” Clifton Bordeaux; and Frank Richard Bordeaux. He is survived by sons, George Thomas Bordeaux II; Naiem (Judy) Bordeaux; and Frank (Jacqueline) Bordeaux; his sister, Amelia Susan Bordeaux; and grandchildren, George III, Hannah, Allie, Amelia, Jack Fisher, CoCo, Hudson and Miles.

 A private family service will be held at a later date.
