George E Switzer, Jr., 87, of Biloxi, MS died Monday, January 18, 2010. Mr. Switzer was born in Handsboro, MS, May 25, 1922. He enlisted in the US Navy shortly after Pearl Harbor. He served in the Pacific ending up on Okinawa and was there when the war ended. He was discharged from the Navy by Christmas of 1945. After a short break from service he then enlisted in the Army and remained over 19 more years. After many overseas duty stations, he retired with over 23 years of combined service in 1966. Mr. Switzer was a Master Mason of 50+ years.
Mr. Switzer is preceded in death by his parents, George E Switzer, Sr. and May Belle Austin Switzer.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Switzer; sons, Ronald L. and Stephen R. Switzer both of Woolmarket; granddaughters, Stephanie and Amanda Switzer; great-granddaughters, Lacy (baby boop) and Taylor (blue eyes) and a very special niece, Sherri Smith and her children.
Services will be Monday, January 25, 2010 at 12:30 pm at the committal shelter at the Biloxi National Cemetery with full military honors.
