George Herman East

George Herman East, Jr. was born February 15, 1938, in Laurel, Mississippi, and died September 8, 2014, in Gulfport, Mississippi. Working for Mississippi Power Company for 40 years, he retired in 2001 as Manager of Systems Operation and Control. Over his lifetime, he was a member of the United Methodist Church where he served at both the local and conference level. As an Eagle Scout, Silver Beaver recipient, and 1999 Pine Burr Area Council Eagle Class sponsor, he continually worked with the Boy Scouts of America as the Scoutmaster of Troop 2 in Meridian, Mississippi and Troop 209 in Gulfport, Mississippi and in many other volunteer capacities with both the Choctaw Area Council and the Pine Burr Area Council. As a Paul Harris Fellow and Founder’s Day Award recipient, he was a member of the Rotary Club of Gulfport where he was a past President and served as Sergeant-at-Arms. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ruth (King) East of Gulfport; three sons, Glen and wife Beth, Allen, Stephen and wife Sandy; and 9 grandchildren, Sarah and husband Wes, Christian and wife Sarah, Geoffrey, Faith, Ben, Lily, Will, Alex, and Anna. The family wants to give special thanks to the staff of Memorial Hospital at Gulfport, for their support. Visitation will be Friday, September 12, 2014, beginning at 11:00 a.m. and ending with a 1:00 p.m. Memorial Service at First United Methodist Church, 2301 – 15th Street, Gulfport, Mississippi.
