George Washington Fluker, Jr., age 93, of Collins, MS., died Wednesday, February 22, 2012, in Collins.
Mr. Fluker was born on May 2, 1918, in Livingston, LA. He lived in Pascagoula most of his life and attended Ocean Springs High School. He worked for Hopeman Brothers Shipbuilders until April, 1944, then joined the US Marine Corp. He became an automatic rifleman who trained and fought on Guadalcanal and was wounded on Okinawa. Mr. Fluker worked and retired from Ingalls in 1989. He was a member of Carpenters Pascagoula Industrial Council, Local Union #234 and was also a member of McLeod Lodge # 424 F & AM, Ocean Springs. He was living at the State Veterans Administration Home in Collins until his death.
Mr. Fluker was preceded in death by his father, George Washington Fluker, mother, Georgia Pearl (Havens) Fluker and grandson, David Ford.
Survivors include a daughter, Judith Ford of Chattanooga, TN, grandsons, Jeff Ford of Braselton, GA,, and Michael Ford of Richardson, TX, and sisters, Dorothea Noble, Melba Hill and Amaryllis Beck, all of Ocean Springs.
Visitation will be on Monday, February 27, 2012, from 10:30 am until 11:30 am, with an 11:30 am chapel service, all at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery.
