Gerald "Boo-Boo" Broussard

Mr. Gerald "Boo-Boo" Broussard, 73, of Biloxi, died in the early morning hours on Monday, April 17, 2007. A lifelong resident of Biloxi, he was the epitome of Biloxi "Cajun", and was born and lived his life on Point Cadet, working 60 years of his life doing what he loved best, fishing the local waters of the Mississippi Sound. During his life he worked for Kuljis Seafood and Dubaz Bros. Like many older Biloxi residents he lost two homes, one to Camille and one to Katrina, but nothing could change his love for South Mississippi. He often reflected on the old days when there were still shrimp factories and Fais Do-Do's. He belonged to the Fleur De Lis Society ( The French Club) on Howard Avenue. Where he was crowned the first King in 1971 of the Annual Fleur De Lis Carnival Ball. His parents, Dudley and Evelyn "Tudy" Broussard, moved from Louisiana during the depression to work in the Fish Camps, and raise their family. They settled on South Cadet Street. (no longer there, present site of the Isle of Capri Casino) He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Vernal "Migues" Broussard. Her family, Leroy and Ella Mae Migues (from Louisiana), lived on East Beach Blvd. (across from Hwy 90). After Gerald and Vernal married, they settled and raised their family right next to their families "on the point". Gerald was survived by his children, Mithcell Broussard, Rhonda Clower and her husband, Joe C. Clower III, and niece, Jacquelyn "Toni" Migues Scarborough and her husband, Michael Scarborough and great nephew, Kevin Pittman. He is also survived by his brother, Ronald "Coo-Coo" Broussard and his wife, Sandy. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. He was a kind-hearted, simple, good natured fellow who saw good in everything and was a friend to all. He is leaving us with the love of a way of life in Biloxi that is passing before our eyes. Find a safe harbor, Daddy and give Momma a hug for all of us. Visitation is on Monday, April 23, 2007, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Services will be on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the Howard Avenue Chapel of BRADFORD-O'KEEFE FUNERAL HOMES (228)374-5650. He will be laid to rest at the Biloxi City Cemetery. Visit and sign register book at www.bradfordokeefe.com.
