Gerald “Gerry” Seymour Wright, aged 79, passed away on August 12, 2024, in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.

Born in Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada, to Kenneth and Christine Wright (Weatherby), Gerry set his sights on seeing the world outside of his beloved hometown. He lived an adventurous life beginning with service in the Royal Canadian Air Force, and then time as a miner in Yellowknife. Gerry later immigrated to the United States and enlisted in the US Army, where he was deployed to Vietnam. Upon return, Gerry joined the US Air Force where he spent the remainder of his military career as a historian. Gerry and his family were able to see the country and the world with assignments in Hawaii; Maine, Florida, England, Germany, and with his last assignment in Virginia, where he retired as a Chief Master Sergeant (E-9).

After retirement, Gerry was looking for a place with a relaxing environment that had to be close to a military base, a VA hospital, and a large body of water, which is how he came to settle in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Gerry loved to take walks, particularly near the beaches, and read his military history books, when he wasn’t out stopping by historical sites and reading those road-side markers.

Gerry was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, the former Jean Anne Wambolt of Nova Scotia.

Gerry is survived by his son, Gerry Wright, and his wife, Bobbi and their son, Matthew Wright; his daughter, Kristy Wright and her daughter, Rebekah Wright; his son, Dang Van Dung, and his wife, Qui Nguyen and their four children; his brother, Jim (Sharon) Wright; his sister, Barb (Leo) Kokx; his long-time partner Dolores Emery, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; three great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family members in both the Wright and Wambolt families and beyond. Also, veterans and service members he served with, and shared experiences and stories with his fellow veterans at the local VFW and Elks Lodge.

There are no services scheduled at this time. Information will be shared with friends and family at a later date.

Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Gerald “Gerry” Seymour Wright.
