Gerald “Jay” Bernard VanCourt, age 81 of Ocean Springs, MS passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2022 in Mobile, AL.
He was born on September 5, 1940 in Biloxi, MS. He was a graduate of Ocean Springs High School and USM in 1964. He was employed as a Field Engineer at Ingalls. He was a founding member of Pour Man’s Yacht Club, where he raised money to buy bicycles for kids in need. He was a member of the American Legion and attended St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. He served as a Staff Sgt. in the United States Army National Guard. He enjoyed Salt-Water deep-sea fishing, boating, going to the islands, and growing tomatoes.
Gerald was preceded in death by his spouse, Bennie Lynn Taylor VanCourt; parents, Daniel Bernard VanCourt and Nellie McElroy VanCourt; and siblings, Ellen Boscoe and Bernell Pringle.
He is survived by his son, Jay (Nicole) VanCourt; and grandchild, Daniel VanCourt.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 15, 2022 at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, Ocean Springs, MS. Friends may visit from 10:00am until 11:00am. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Ocean Springs.
