Glenn Young, Sr.

Mr. Glenn Young, Sr., age 82, of Ocean Springs, MS., died Wednesday, July 16, 2008, in Ocean Springs. Mr. Young was a lifelong resident of Ocean Springs and was a veteran of WWII serving in the Merchant Marines. He was employed with Civil Service at Keesler Air Force Base for over 30 years. He served as Chief Steward for the AFLCIO. Mr. Young was the Civil Defense Director for the City of Ocean Springs for 35 years and also with the Jackson County Civil Defense. He served the public through many storms and hurricanes. He was one of the founding members of the Ocean Springs National Guard, a volunteer fireman, served as an Ocean Springs Alderman in the 1980's for Ward 4, and owned and operated the Seven G's Charter Boat for many years. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Mr. Young was preceded in death by a son, George Young, his parents, Orey A. Young and Marinina Moran Young, a twin brother, Alan Young and sister, Audrey Sterkens. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Eleanor Young, daughter, Gayle Orfield and her husband, Gail, four sons, Glenn Young II and wife, Terrie, Gary Young and wife, Pam, Gene Young and wife, Modenna, and Gay Lorne Young and special friend, Valerie Wilson, two sisters, Elaine Miheve and Ethel Robins, eight grandchildren, Ginger Griffin, Brooke Eaton, Geoff Orfield, Aimee Young, Desiree Lennep, Jennifer Barrineau, Christina Young and Sarah Young and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be on Friday, July 18, 2008, from 6-8 PM, at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. On Saturday, July 19, 2008, a 9:45 AM procession will leave the funeral home for a 10 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
