Mrs Glenna J. Phillips, of Biloxi, Mississippi passed away on January 26, 2017 at age 86. Mrs. Phillips was married to Ray E. Phillips (deceased) of Raton, New Mexico. She is pre-deceased by her older sister Velma Kruse and older brother Gordon Jones.
Glenna was born in Biloxi on January 16, 1931 to Frank D. Jones and Alberta C. Hosli. She married Ray on December 21, 1950, the marriage was blessed with three sons, Gary, Ralph and Larry. Glenna was an art¬ist engaged in many crafts creating beauty out of chaos. Glenna also was an expert seamstress, sewing exquisite doll clothes for friends and innumerable Halloween cos¬tumes for her sons. She was a model of resilience, quiet and unassuming, weathering personal and life challenges with tremendous grace and dignity. After spending over twenty years traveling as a military wife, Ray and Glenna settled in D’Iberville, Missis¬sippi near her home town of Biloxi. Glenna lived there for over 40 years, watching her sons grow up and leave home to pursue careers and profes¬sional lives. She remained the heart of the family. There was no victory too small for her to rejoice with her sons and extended family, and no sorrow too great for her to shoulder to help family and friends get past their sadness.
Glenna was a 30 year member of the United Methodist Church on Cedar Lake Road, and her church family was a key part of her life. The dear friends from the church made her life so joyful and she spoke about them often in her final days.
Glenna had a stroke on September 15th, 2016 and was not able to recover over the following months. The Lord took her gently and as a woman of great faith, there is certainty that she has rejoined her loving husband in heaven.
There will be a memorial service at the Ce¬dar Lake United Methodist Church, Cedar Lake Road at 10:00 am on March 1, 2017. Glenna will be interred at Coalville United Methodist Cemetery with her husband. She is survived by her sons, Gary, Ralph and Larry as well as two daughters-in-law Deborah and Beverly, three grandsons, one granddaughter and five great-grandsons. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who wish, please donate to the United Methodist Church; 12330 Cedar Lake Rd, Biloxi, MS 39532.
