Mrs. Gloria "Nickie" Barnes, age 87, of Ocean Springs, MS, passed away, after a long bout with lung cancer, on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, in Ocean Springs.
She was a resident of the community for 35 years and was heavily involved with the Girl Scouts over the years. She was involved with St. Andrews Ladies Association as well as the Ocean Springs "Red Hat Society".
Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by her husband, Colonel John W. Barnes, parents, James Nicholas and Jeanette Clark Nicholas and two sisters, Ladye Kendrick and Gladys Brantley.
Survivors include two sons, John Michael Barnes and David W. (Dianne) Barnes, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
On Monday, May 20, 2013, there will be an 11 am graveside service in Biloxi National Cemetery.
The entire Barnes family would like to thank the Hospice of Light in Ocean Springs.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 417 Security Square, Gulfport, MS 39507.
