We lost a very dear friend this week; Gregory Claude Lewis (L'enfant Terrible).
Greg was the grandson of Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Sinclair Lewis and renowned International correspondent, Dorothy Thompson. He was born the second son of Michael and Bernadette Lewis. His older brother was the late, John Paul Lewis.
Greg inherited many talents and traits from his ancestors. He was complex, intelligent, and quite outspoken. At the same time, he was loving, kind, and extremely generous. He loved a good laugh as much as he enjoyed a vigorous debate and would often start an argument just for sport. He was a voracious reader. He possessed a deep knowledge of world history, art, and music and would often correct those who spoke inaccurately about historical events. He had a particular interest in WWII and volunteered at the National World War II Museum in his spare time.
Greg loved food, wine, and women. Although he never married, Greg held women in high esteem and had a magnetism many women could not resist. Greg grew up in the south of France and traveled throughout Europe extensively in his youth. He mastered the art of construction and would spend much of his life restoring older homes and properties in New Orleans. Greg was a one-of-a-kind character. Mere words cannot do justice to describe this eccentric man. Those who knew and loved him will smile, recalling stories and events shared with Gregory Claude Lewis. Allyson and I will miss him dearly.
No services will be held.
Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes is honored to serve the family of Gregory Lewis.
