Guy Joel Boutwell

Guy Joel Boutwell, 76, of Gulfport died Sunday March 25, 2012 in Gulfport. Guy was born on December 24, 1935 in Sontag, Mississippi to W.S. and Rosa Schaeffer Boutwell. Guy graduated from Monticello High School and joined the U.S. Air Force. After serving in the USAF, Guy joined the U.S. Navy, serving on the ship U.S. Enterprise from which he retired. He then began a career on the Mississippi River as a riverboat Captain for Canal Barge Company for 30 years. Guy was a member of the Baptist faith, attending Bel-Air Baptist Church, Gulfport. He believed in his Savior, Jesus Christ. Guy was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Eunice Boutwell; and a loving sister-in-law, Katherine P. Boutwell. Guy is survived by his two children, Ronald D. Boutwell (Sue) and Deborah B. Griffith; five grandchildren, Skylar Griffith, William Griffith, Miley Thames, Nicolas Boutwell and Manatchai Sawangong; two brothers, William A. Boutwell (Vel) of Biloxi and Carl G. Boutwell (Mary Lee) of Magee; two sisters, Evelena B. Frazier and Rose B. Britt (Welton) of Brookhaven; two devoted friends and caregivers, Deane and Larry Gehrlein of Gulfport; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him. Brother Randy Howell, Pastor, Bel-Air Baptist Church, Gulfport will conduct services on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home on O'Neal Rd., Gulfport where friends may visit beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held at a later date at Biloxi National Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are Johnny Holiday, Larry Gehrlein, Carl Boutwell, Jr., Don Frazier, Mike Frazier, William Aven, and Bob Bridges.
