Harriet Nix Lamburth, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, passed away on November 11, 2024, at the age of 91.
Harriet was born in Cairo, Illinois on April 3, 1933, to Ruby and Harry Nix, the second child of four. Harriet’s mother passed away shortly after giving birth to her fourth child. After losing her mother, Harriet and her siblings were split up and taken in by family members until eventually being reunited and raised by her aunt, Ann Nix. In 1950, Harriet met and soon married the love of her life, Paul Raymond Lamburth, who served in the Korean War.
Following her husband’s return from Korea, Harriet and Paul settled down in Jackson, Mississippi, with Paul taking a position with the GM&O Railroad. Harriet and Paul were the proud parents of two daughters, Theresa (Dr. Paul Pavlov) and Valarie (Lee Connell). Harriet entered the workforce as a bookkeeper for various business entities, among them McRae’s Department Store, and for the last twenty-five years, for the Public Employees Retirement System. Following her husband’s passing in 1990, Harriett retired, moving to Ocean Springs to be closer to her family where she enjoyed being active in the lives of her four grandchildren, whom she adored. Harriet developed a passion for quilting which in time seemed to spread out over a good portion of her home; she also found great pleasure in the wonderful life-long relationships she developed over the years with her friends in her quilting circles.
Her loved ones were the most important part of her life story. Her parents, Ruby and Harry Nix; her aunt, Ann Nix; her husband, Paul; her sister, Pat; and her brothers, Harry and Tom have all passed before her.
She is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, and her grandchildren, Anthony Pavlov, Matt Pavlov (Amanda), Dr. Anna Pavlov (Sean), and Brittany Phillips (Brandon); as well as by her great-grandchildren, Annadele and Kasmira Pavlov, Parker and Paxton Phillips, and Charli and Franki Pierce, all of whom she adored. Harriet also loved her extended family members, their children and great-grandchildren as her own--the Pavlovs, the Dodds, and the Vogelbeins.
In her last year, Harriet moved to The Lighthouse Assisted Living community where special thanks go to the nurses and caregivers in Cottage E as well as to Caitlyn at Saad’s Hospice and her physician, Dr. Chris Shelby, and the staff of North Bay Family Medical Clinic. Harriet’s family wishes to express a Special Thank-You to Jeannie DeGeorge, her caregiver, companion, and friend, and to Anne Seymour, who devotedly provided not only care and service but much love as well.
Harriet’s funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am on Monday, November 18, at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 4900 Riley Road in Ocean Springs. Friends may visit one hour prior.
