Hazel Marie Cruthirds Jones, born January 1, 1924 passed away on Friday, June 3, 2022. She was a resident of Summer House Bay Cove Senior Living.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, George Edward (Jona) Jones, III. They were married on September 25, 1942. They were both graduates of Biloxi High School and spent their entire lives living in Biloxi.
Hazel was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church in Biloxi, beginning with Sunday school at the church on Main Street. She liked to recall the story of the church move to Hopkins Avenue and the building of the new church there. Hazel remained an active member of the Biloxi First United Methodist Church when the move was made to its present location on Shriner’s Boulevard.
As a charter member of Young Matrons Club, Hazel enjoyed years of friendships, social activities, and the annual carnival ball. She reigned as queen of the annual ball in 1966. She also enjoyed playing golf for many years at Sunkist Country Club.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband and grandchild, Tara Smith.
She is survived by her children, Penelope “Penny” jones Groves (Ronnie) of the St. Martin Community, George Edward “Eddie” Jones, IV (Angela) of Biloxi, Donna Jones Barnes (Tommy) of Biloxi, and Janeen Jones Kopp (Bob) of Fairborn, OH; grandchildren, Derek Groves, Bruce Groves, Todd Jones, Jill Jones Compton, Janette Jones Shaw, Amber Jones Raynor, Joy Smith, Warren Kopp, and Brett Kopp; thirteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 10, 2022 at Biloxi First United Methodist Church. Friends may visit from 10:30 a.m. until service time. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is honored to serve the Jones family.
