Hazel Vance Legate

Mrs. Hazel Vance Legate was the beacon of light in the Legate Family. Her heart and home were always filled with kindness and love. She was everything a lady, wife and mother should be. Hazel Vance Legate suffered for many years with Alzheimers. She was called to be with our Lord August 29, 2005, at the Gulf Coast Medical Center in Biloxi during the early morning hours prior to the arrival of Hurricane Katrina. She wsas 90 years old. Hazel Legate was a native of Belton, SC and a long-time resident of Ocean Springs. She enjoyed participating in the Garden Club, using her skilled green-thumb and accomplished skills as a floral arranger to grow and create many award-winning flowers and arrangements. She nurtured her love for beauty outdoors and extended this love into her home and her business Hazel worked hard as a self-employed licensed cosmetician for many years. Hazel was a faithful member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Ocean Springs. She was preceded in death by her sister, Quida Vance Coker of Moonville, SC and her parents, Frank Vance and Bessie Holliday Vance of Greenville County, SC. Hazel is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Brooks "B" Legate, and her loving son, Bruce W. Legate of Ocean Springs; her sister, Lena Mae Horton, of Belton, SC; her brother, France Vance, Jr., of Piedmont, SC; her nieces, Janice Coker Durham and Eleanor Coker McGahhee both of Piedmont, SC. Due to the impact of Hurricane Karina, Hazel Vance Legate was cremated and remains with her son, Bruce W. Legate. A memorial service will be held and announced at a later date. She was very special to those who joined together in remembering and mourning her loss. She will be cherished forever in the hearts of her loved ones.
