Helen Dorothy “Grandma Sugar” Gollott Skupien passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2013 in Ocean Springs, MS.
Helen, 87, was born in Biloxi, MS on January 16, 1926, one of eight children of Houston, Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth Everett Gollott. She traveled the world and loved Christmas and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A lifelong resident of Biloxi, she worked for 15 years in the cafeteria at Popp’s Ferry Elementary School. Helen served as a volunteer in the RSVP program for 21 years. Other volunteer service included the Salvation Army, Twelve Baskets, Loaves and Fishes and Meals on Wheels.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter A. Skupien, Sr., originally from Chicago; three brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by a daughter, Anita (Scott) Byrd, of Biloxi; two sons, Randy (Lila) Skupien, of Biloxi and Walter (Linda) Skupien, Jr., of Ocean Springs; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two sisters.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Howard Avenue in Biloxi. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 26, 2013 at New Life Family Church on Popp’s Ferry Road where friends may visit one hour prior to service time. Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery.
