Mrs. Helen Poulos Newman, age 90, of Biloxi, MS, went to her heavenly Father and beloved husband on Monday, August 16, 2010.
Mrs. Newman was an entreperneur who speculated in land acquisition. She operated Newman's Clothing Store for 15 years and Newman's Restaurant Supply Company for 22 years before retiring. She was a member of Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Cathedral for 65 years and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church for the past 5 years. She served as past president of the Oak Park Garden Club and was a member of the North Bay Senior Citizens Club. Helen was an accomplished seamstress and loved cooking for her loved ones. She enjoyed playing cards and eating sweets.
Mrs. Newman was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Paul Irving Newman; daughter, Ruth Newman Barattini; mother, Theresa Artbani Poulos; father, Salim Poulos; three sisters, Mary Saab, Rose Gill and Katherine Bills; and four brothers, Joseph, Tony, Mickey, and John Poulos.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Jo Newman and Paula Newman Lusk; two sons-in-law, Frank Lusk and Craig Barattini; five grandchildren, Erin Raborn, Colin and Sean Lusk, Chelsea and Rachel Barattini; and four great grandchildren, Martin Raborn, Merrik and Ian Lusk and Olivia Lusk.
Visitation is Wednesday, August 18, 2010, from 5 until 7 p.m., with a Scripture Service at 6:30 p.m., at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Howard Avenue, in Biloxi. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Cathedral where friends may visit one hour prior. Interment will follow in Southern Memorial park.
