Helen Virginia Powell Head

Helen Virginia Powell Head, 94, of Gulfport died January 6, 2012, in Gulfport. She was a native and lifelong resident of Gulfport and a member of the First Baptist Church of Gulfport. About 20 years ago she retired from Gayfers with 28 years of service. Mrs. Head was preceded in death by her parents, Corbett Powell and Elouise McGuire Powell; her husband, James Abner Head, Sr.; a brother, Ben Powell; a sister, Lois Rich; and a daughter-in-law Janie Head. She is survived by two daughters, Betty McReynolds (Charles) of Biloxi; and Sara Cobb (David) of Long Beach; a son, James A. Head, Jr. of Long Beach; ten grandchildren, Charles Scott McReynolds (Jennifer), John McReynolds (Lisa), Laura Hickham (Tim), Sara Lee (Brian), James A. Head, III, Elizabeth Anne Head, Michelle Gipson (Walter), Melinda Dubuisson (Scott), Michael Cobb (Maria), Meredith Cobb; sixteen great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandson. A special thanks to Anne Bradley, Emma Halton and Linda Buchanan who have taken care of her for years. The funeral service is Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport where friends may visit beginning at 1:00 pm.
