Helen Zets Marine entered into the Kingdom of Heaven, is living in a promised Heavenly Mansion, walking on Golden streets and singing with Angels. Helen Marine, 88 of Biloxi died peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 after a lengthy illness. Helen was born March 5, 1921 in Bentleyville, PA, the fifth born in a family of six children. Her parents were naturalized citizens who immigrated from Yugoslavia. She retired from nursing while working with the American Red Cross Blood Services in Biloxi. After retirement, she was a volunteer with the Sunshine Guild and worked in the Gulf Coast Medical Center. She was an avid golfer, a member of the Keesler Military Wives Golf Association and at one time was the Keesler Wives Club golf champion. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, Biloxi where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. Her magnetic personality and infectious smile could warm the coldest hearts and endeared her to all who had the honor of knowing her. Helen was preceded in death by her father, Steven Zets; her mother, Pauline Babich; a brother, Michael Zets and two sisters, Mildred Inchak and Mary Horvath. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, John Marine, three daughters, Debbie (Glenn) Hagler of Saucier, MS; Kathy (Bobby) Dabbs of Taylor, TX and Jan Smitherman of Biloxi, MS; a son Jay Marine of Tucson, AZ; 9 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren. Survivors also include two sisters, Evelyn Pose of Austintown, OH and Sally Brown of Niles, OH; a sister-in-law, Mary Carmichael of Holland, MI and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the owner and staff of Alternative Personal Care Home in Ocean Springs, MS for the love and care they gave to Helen during her lengthy illness. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be donated in her memory to: First Baptist Church, 1560 Popps Ferry Road, Biloxi, MS 39532. Visitation will be Sunday, July 19, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Service will be Monday, July 20, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. with a visitation from 12:30 p.m. Both will take place at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi.
