Henry Bertram Hickox

Henry Bertram Hickox, age 89, of Ocean Springs, MS passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at home with his loving wife, Mary and grandson, Dylan by his side.

Henry was born on February 17, 1935 in Haverhill, MA. As a youth, he began doing chores on a farm to earn money until he graduated high school. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1954. During his enlistment, he participated with the construction of the Panama Canal. After that he was assigned to several U.S. Navy submarines: the Rankin, Teddy Roosevelt and Thomas Jefferson to name a few. Henry completed his service to the U.S. Navy in Long Island where he worked as a recruiter prior to retirement. After his retirement in 1974, he moved to Ocean Springs where he remained until his passing.

After coming to Ocean Springs where he was hired as a manager at Hardee’s and worked there for two years. Afterwards, he went to work at Ingalls Shipbuilding as a pipe-fitter for 20 years. He continued service to his community afterwards by working as a stocker at Rouses Market.

During his spare time, he loved fishing and tending to his plants. When he could no longer do that, he enjoyed reading and watching Westerns with his wife.

Henry is preceded in death by his parents, Roberts S. and Doris Evelyn Hickox and Henry Franklin Miller, III; and by his daughter, Debbie Hickox.

Left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Mary Alice Sharp-Hickox; children, Judy Anglin, Donna Braswell (Kelly) and David Hickox; several adult step-children; grandchildren, Dylan Kenneth Downs, Zoe Alice Slotterback and Rebecca Corrien Slotterback; granddaughter/caregiver, Mary Adele Reese (Michael); many other grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and siblings, Doris (James) How, Edith Johnson, Cynthia (Albert) DeSantis.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to SAAD Hospice Care, the Internal Medicine Staff at Keesler Medical Center, Pastor Mike Barbera and the staff at Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. with a 1:00 p.m. Celebration of Life, all at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home.
