Henry Midell Simmons

Henry Simmons, born in Moss Point on October 23, 1922, went to his Lord after a long battle with cancer at age 84. He was a long time resident of Ocean Springs. He was a 32 degree Mason, a member of McLeod Lodge in Ocean Springs for 56 years. A member of First Baptist Church. He loved his family and enjoyed his retirement years fishing and boating. Henry Simmons, fought in two wars for his country, retiring from the Air Force. He loved his country, family and his God. He was retired from Florida Water Management. He started the Florida Flood Control Field Station in Clewiston Florida to control the levies to prevent flooding and weed management for the southern sector of Florida. Preceding him in death is his parents, Henry Silas Simmons and Lucy Simmons Phillips, wife of 42 years, Lois Sheffield Simmons, wife of 15 years, Floy Saxon Simmons, daughter, Patsy Jean Simmons and 9 brothers and sisters. Surviving him is one brother, J.W. Phillips of Vancleave, daughter, Sandra Gartner Zolonz, grandchildren, Kevin Gartner, Trina Williams, Christopher Gartner, great grandchildren, Corey Williams, Cassie Williams, Dacoda Williams, Brenden Gartner, Tristen Gartner, Madison Gartner, and Justin Gartner. He was blessed with numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation is Tuesday, April 24, 2007 from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Howard Avenue Chapel of BRADFORD-O'KEEFE FUNERAL HOME (228)374-5650. Interment will be at the Biloxi City Cemetery.
