Herbert "Check" Broussard, 83, of Biloxi, MS, joined our Father in Heaven on Wednesday, March 18, 2009. He will be greatly missed by both family and friends.
Mr. Broussard was a lifelong resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, with a special fondness for his stint aboard the USS Maginty. He continued his dedication to his country in the Civil Service working for the Army Air Force Exchange Service. Upon retirement from AAFES, he worked where he loved, on the water, ending his career aboard his beloved Joka's Wild. Proud of his heritage and his past, he was a member of both the Fleur De Lis Society and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a lifelong Catholic; he attended St. Michael Church in Biloxi.
Mr. Broussard was a devoted family man and friendly by nature. Check never met a stranger and was loved by many. He would always light up a room with conversation and was a regular at the old "Donutland" and "The Chairs".
He is preceded in death by his son, Herbert Michael Broussard, his mother, Enola Broussard, his father, Isadore Broussard and sister, Rena Broussard Busbee.
Mr. Broussard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Frances Herrington Broussard; daughter, Sharon Broussard Pelaez and her husband, George; son, Jeffrey David Broussard; daughter-in-law, Becky Theriot Broussard; four grandchildren, Kimberly Broussard Lyons (Patrick), Kacie Pelaez Briscoe, George H. "Jordy" Pelaez and Dustin Elliott Broussard; one great-grandchild, Donovan Hugh Briscoe; a special sister-in-law, Freida Herrington Thompson (Harold) and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be Friday, March 20, 2009, 2:00 p.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church where friends may visit from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Interment is in Southern Memorial Park in Biloxi.
