Herbert Gleason Mapp, age 80, formerly of Gulfport and a resident of Washington D.C. died Saturday, August 23, 2008 in Washington, D.C. He relocated after Katrina to the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington D.C.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1969 after 20 years of service, having served in the Korean War and retired from his second career as a truck driver after 20 years. Herbert was a 32nd Degree Mason with memberships in Orange Grove Lodge #635 F&AM, Gulfport and Washington Daylight Lodge # 14, Washington D.C. He was a member of Grand York Rite Bodies of Ms, Gulfport #121, Scottish Rite of Freemasonary, Southern Juridation, Gulfport, Shriners of North America, Joppa Temple, Biloxi and the Country Music Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Lee Archie Mapp.
He is survived by a daughter Judy Mapp Lewis and husband, Joe C. of Jacksonville, FL; two sons, William "Bill" Mapp and wife, Stephanie of Waynesboro, MS and Stanley Darnell Mapp of Little Rock, MS; four grandchildren, Bradley Duke Lewis and wife, Nikki, Brandon Drew Lewis and wife, Amanda, Benjamin Colt Lewis, and Stanley Bruce Mapp; and a great grandson, Bryce Edward Lewis.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital or Burn Centers C/O the Joppa Shrine Temple, 13280 New Highway 67, Biloxi, MS 39532, or to the charity of one's choice.
The funeral service will be held Friday, August 29, 2008 at 11:15 a.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport where friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until the service. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery with Masonic Rites and military honors.
