Mr. Horace R. Guillotte, age 93, passed away on March 14, 2005, at his home in Ocean Springs. He was born on December 4, 1911, in Gautier, MS., resided in Biloxi during his school years, and graduated from Biloxi High School. He was a member of the Catholic faith.
Mr. Guillottes' career began as a telegrapher on board commercial ships whose destinations were South America. From there he took a position in engineering with WDSU Radio in New Orleans, LA. In August of 1933 he began what was to be a thirty seven year career with CBS. His CBS days spanned the height of radio, a world war, and the advent of television. Friends included the likes of Edward R. Murrow, Arthur Godfrey, Gene Autry, and many others from the heyday of radio and early television broadcasting. At the culmination of his career he held the position of Vice President of personnel and labor relations for CBS corporate, responsible for negotiating all of the networks union contracts.
Married to Elva Shove, of Biloxi, in April of 1934, they resided in New York and Studio City, CA., until his retirement in 1971. The couple returned to their roots on the Gulf Coast and built their home in Ocean Springs. Family was all important to "Brother", as he was affectionately called by relatives and friends alike. He was everybody's "fix it" man and generously gave his many talents to all. His loving kindness touched all who knew him.
A cherished father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Elva Shove Guillotte,his parents, Peter Guillotte and Theresa Stojcich Guillotte, of Biloxi, and two sisters, Hilda Guillotte Bussolati of Biloxi and Emelda Guillotte Freiberger also Emelda Guillotte Freiberger also of Biloxi. Mr. Guillotte is survived by his only child, Carolyn Guillotte Mittrick and husband, John, of Ocean Springs, his three Emelda Guillotte Freiberger also of Biloxi. Mr. Guillotte is survived by his only child, Carolyn Guillotte Mittrick and husband, John, of Ocean Springs, his three grandchildren, Scott Praiss and wife, Patricia, of Biloxi, Glenn Praiss of Hemet, CA., and Donna Praiss Riley and husband, Jason, of Biloxi, two great-grandchildren, Randy Riley and Sabrina Riley, three nieces, Jacqueline Bussolati Rosenhauer of Diamondhead, Emelda Freiberger Oliver of Jonesboro, GA., and Susan Freiberger Saxon of Lilburn, GA.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 18, 2005 from 1-2 PM, with a 2 PM chapel service, all at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
