Horst Wilhelm Wetzel

My darling husband, Horst Wilhelm Wetzel, fully aware that he was ravaged by cancer departed this earth on Thursday, September 22, 2005, in Gulfport, MS., to be in paradise with his blessed Lord and Savior. Horst was born on May 6, 1932, in Recklenhausen, Germany, and, as a boy, suffered through the Nazi Oppression hiding in woods and making his way out of the country. He came by ship to New York in 1959. Mr. Wetzel was a direct descendent of the great Martin Luther. He worked for thrity years at Navistar (International Harvester) as a mechanical engineer in Melrose Park, Illinois. Upon retirement he moved to Pass Christian in 1989 where our house of memories and love was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Horst has moved to his fathers mansion in Heaven. Mr. Wetzel was preceded in death by his parents, Hildegard and Alfred, brother, sister-in-law, Danna Bowie and brother-in-law, Stan Newcomb. To worship and cherish his memory, he leaves behind to join him later his cherished wife, Tanya Newcomb Wetzel, his beloved daughter and son-in-law, Tara and Troy Stone and their cherished daughters, Mikayla and Abigail, his brave son and daughter-in-law, Wesley and Laura Calloway, their children, Aaron, Jarrett and Arielle, all of Ocean Springs, and Matthew Dozier and wife, Hope with daughters, Rikki and Emily of Multrie, Georgia. He with great regret leaves his mother-in-law, Beverly Newcomb Ikerd whom he loved so much, and her friend of 16 years, Harry Penton formerly of Gulfport. Very importantly he leaves his dear friend and confidante, Willie Stone of Ocean Springs, MS., whom he admired for his wisdom and gentleness. Horst also leaves behind his brother, Wolfgang Alfred Wetzel and wife, Judey, of Hamburg, Germany, and great friends and neighbors, Anna and Ralph Buras, Daphne, Mariah and Devon, brother-in-law, Jim Bowie of Daphne, AL., four nieces, Kristie (Mike) Constantine of N.D., Tiffany Spivey and Jennifer Bowie of Daphne, AL., Leah Newcomb and children, Lexi and Rylee of Poplarville, MS., Tiffany's son, Malachi and Kristies daughter, Brooke Danna Constantine. Mr. Wetzel also greatly admires and loves his only nephew, Shane Newcomb and son, Tyson, of Poplarville. Donna and Barry Duncan were wonderful family and friends. Until later my most cherished and beloved soulmate, sweetheart, friend and love. Meet me as planned in the great hereafter at the gate of Heaven where there will be no pain or parting. With all my heart and soul, I will love, cherish and think of you forever and three days. A loving. gentle giant of a man with a hugh and loving heart, he will always be loved, cherished and remembered by all family and friends. Special love and blessings on Dr. Purashattum Pande, Dr. Edwin Davidson, Dr. Moore, and the great staff of the Oncology Unit of Memorial Hospital of Gulfport. Horst will be cremated and eventually his ashes and Tanyas will be combined. Not goodbye my love, but until we meet again on Heavens shores. Love forever and three days. The end is just a new beginning. On Saturday, October 1, 2005, there will be an 11 AM Memorial Service at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home, where friends may visit from 10-11 AM. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
