Hugh Charles "H.C." Seymour, III, 76, died January 9, 2011, at his home surrounded by loved ones. Born July 4, 1934, he was a lifelong resident of Jackson County. He was a member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in D'Iberville. H.C. was preceded in death by his parents, Esther and Hugh Seymour, Jr.; sisters, Bedola Bond and Janet Reid. Mr. Seymour is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Barbara Blanchard Seymour; two daughters, Deborah Seymour and Wanda Seymour Humphrey (Dale) and son, Charles Seymour (Sharon). He leaves his grandchildren with wonderful memories of their PawPaw, Sheila and Hugh Humphrey and Barbara Nan Seymour; as well as three step-grandchildren, Chevy and Tamara Lacy and Brad Garner and step-great-granddaughter, Kayla Garner. He is also survived by his sister and two brothers; Lou Seymour Jacquet (Clyde), Clarence Seymour (Carolyn), and Michael R. Seymour (Linda). Survivors also include numerous nieces and nephews and a host of close friends. Mr. Seymour, known by many as "H.C." or "Chick", was a Self-Employed Landscaping Contractor and also worked many years at Suburban Utilities. A passionate fisherman, he won many awards including King Fisherman at the Mississippi Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo in 1981. Among his many hobbies, he enjoyed gardening and tending to his pecan orchard. He was also Caretaker of Seymour Cemetery. In 1953, his senior year, he was voted Mr. St. Martin High School, where he was a twelve year student. Mr. Seymour was a local historian of his own regard, having a wealth of knowledge of the Mississippi Gulf Coast and Jackson County. He was known for telling stories of his younger days working at Gulf Hills when Elvis frequented the stables and golf course. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 12, 2011 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, January 13, 2011 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. where friends may visit one hour prior. Interment will follow at Seymour Cemetery. Pallbearers are Floran "Punkin" Bond, Hugh Humphrey, Clyde Jacquet, Jr., Chevy Lacy, Cleve Lamey, Jr., Carl Reid, Clarence Seymour, Jr., and John Seymour. Randall Seymour and Billy Taylor are honorary pallbearers. The family wishes to thank Ocean Springs Hospital and Hospice of Light for the exceptional care Mr. Seymour received in his final days.
