Ida Mae Gandy Walters

November 23, 1930 — June 26, 2023

Green Cove Spring, FL

It is with great sorrow that our family announces Ida Mae Gandy Walters, 92, of Green Cove Spring, Florida passed away quietly at her home on Monday, June 26, 2023.  She was born in Biloxi, Mississippi on November 23, 1930.  Ida Mae attended Gorenflo Elementary School and Biloxi High School.

Ida Mae had a lovely voice and as a young girl she sang in the choir at church with her mother.  Just recently, her son George, captured her on video sitting on the porch, still with that lovely voice, singing the beautiful hymn, “In the Garden”, her favorite.

She was also a talented embroideress, which was evident by the beautiful pillowcases and handkerchiefs she embroidered for friends and family.

She was also a very enthusiastic fan of WWE.  In fact, you could hear her enthusiasm all through the house.  John Cena and Roman Reigns were her current favorites.

She was very close to her maternal grandparents, especially her grandfather.  Hardly a day went by where she didn't share a memory of her beloved Grandpa.

In 1967 the family moved to Florida, but her heart was always in Biloxi where most of her relatives resided.

Ida Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Pearline Necaise Gandy Carver and William Whiting Gandy; her husband George W. Walters Jr; her maternal grandparents, Casmier L. Necaise and Laney Duckworth Necaise; paternal grandparents, William Willet Gandy and Elizabeth Faulkner Gandy; her son, Paul Alan Walters; her daughter, Rebecca Lynn Lowery; her infant brother, Harold Lee Carver; her grandson, Brandon Hurley; and her great-grandson, Aaron Utley.

She is survived by her sons, George W. Walters, Jeffery S. Walters, and Joseph W. Walters; her daughters, Linda Godin, Carol Huggins, Karen Katz, and Evelyn Rice; her grandchildren, Larry Donnell, Carla Hurley, Suzanne Utley, Billy Jackson, Scott Walters, Stephen Walters, Georgiana Walters, Seana Walters, Billy Hurley, Cassie Barton, Bryant Rice, and Cameron Rice; her great-grandchildren, Nathan Donnell, Zac Donnell, Eva Hurley-Flanagan, Allison Utley, Ashley Utley, Ally Hurley, Brayden Hurley, Hartley Barton, and Hensley Barton; and her great-great-grandson, Malik Ally.
