Irene L. Matthews

Irene L. Matthews, age 92, of Gulfport passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2008 in Washington, D.C. Mrs. Matthews was born in Lyons, WI and was a resident of Gulfport at the Armed Forces Retirement Home for about 15 years and moved to Washington D.C. following Hurricane Katrina. She was Catholic and a United States Navy Veteran of World War II, serving as a nurse. She retired from Civil Service as a registered nurse. She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Matthews. Survivors include her daughter, Judith Ahler of Twin Lakes, WI; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport where friends may visit from 11:30 a.m. until the service. Interment follows at Biloxi National Cemetery, Biloxi.
