Irene Theresa Meynier Wallace (62) of Ocean Springs, MS, departed this life on May 21, 2009, after a battle with lung cancer. She was born in New Orleans, LA on November 18, 1946, but she was reared on “The Point of Biloxi”, MS. She was a sax player in the Biloxi High School Band and was part of the 1964 graduation class. From there, she lived in New Orleans to obtain her Associates Degree in Business, and moved back to Biloxi, later residing in Ocean Springs, MS, where she was a devoted wife and mother of two daughters. She retired her 35 years service at Northward Grumman Ship Systems in 2006.
Irene is preceded in death by her first husband, Walter E. Smith of Ocean Springs, her nephew, Justin Strange, and her father and mother, Alfred V. Meynier, Sr., Miriam Glynn Meynier, both of Biloxi, and father-in-law, Elmer Wallace of Hurley, MS.
She is survived by her husband, Eugene E. Wallace of Ocean Springs; her daughters, Michelle R. Smith (Robin) of D’Iberville, and Colleen E. Smith of Ocean Springs; a bother, Alfred V. Meynier, Jr. (Rebecca) of Lucedale, also by nephews, nieces, and cousins of both the Meynier and Glynn families. She also was very loved by the Wallace family of Hurley, MS, where she had her mother-in-law, four brother-in-laws and four sister in- laws, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
