Irene Pellish Subasavage, age 97, died Monday, March 9, 2015 in D'Iberville.
Mrs. Subasavage was a resident of Ocean Springs for eight years, where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law. She was born in Llewellyn, PA. She was the daughter of the late John Pellish Jr. and Annie Onuskonich. She moved to Norfolk, VA in 1960, returning to Pottsville, PA in 1985.
Mrs. Subasavage retired from the Naval Air Rework Facility as a Budget Analyst in 1982. She learned to crochet at 50 years old and crocheted many afghans for friends and family. She loved to make crocheted Christmas ornaments and origami stars which she shared readily.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Joseph J. “Purple” Subasavage in 2000; her son, Joseph Jr., in 1961; her brothers, John, William and Harry; and her sister, Matilda (Uranko).
Mrs. Subasavage's survivors are her sons, George of Portsmouth, VA, James of Virginia Beach, VA and John (Dorothy) of Norfolk, VA; her daughter, Mary (James) Rowe of Ocean Springs, MS; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like contributions made to the charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank Greenbriar Nursing Center and Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care.
Interment will be at St. Francis Cemetery in Minersville, PA at a later date.
The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
