Jacinto “Baltar” Holland, Sr. passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday December 29, 2011 at the age of 88. He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Holland Redden of Victorville, California, his three children; son J.B. (Jack) Holland, Jr. and his wife Roxanne of Huntington Beach, California, daughters Debra Holland Turner of Biloxi, and Theresa Holland Crabb and her husband Joe of Lake Mary, Florida, nine grandchildren; Kirsta Johnson, Jason Holland, Robert Holland, Chelsea Holland Sullivan, Lindsey Green, Michael Turner, Stephen Crabb, Katie Crabb, and David Crabb, five great grandchildren; Matthew Johnson, Kevin Johnson, Madison Johnson, Reese Green, and Matthew Crabb. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Marvine “Bobbye” Kirby Holland and his great grandson Eric Johnson. Baltar was born in Biloxi on October 3, 1923, graduated from Biloxi High School and attended Perkinston Junior College where he played basketball. Baltar served in the U. S. Army during World War II, and received an Honorable Discharge. Upon returning home, after the war, he met and married Marvine “Bobby” Kirby. He enrolled at Mississippi State University and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. He and his family returned to Biloxi and went to work at First Federal Savings and Loan of Biloxi where he dedicated over 40 years which included overseeing the merger with Magnolia Federal Savings and Loan. He retired as President and a member of the Board of Directors in 1990. Baltar was an exceptional husband and father that held his family as his foremost priority in life. Second to the love of his family, his dedication and affection for the city of Biloxi and the entire Mississippi Gulf Coast were nearest and dearest to his heart. Baltar was very active in the Biloxi area as a member of the Biloxi Yacht Club where he held the position of Commodore; additionally he served on Howard Memorial Hospital’s Board of Directors, the Biloxi Planning Commission, Biloxi Public Schools Bi-Racial Committee, Mithras Carnival Association, Mississippi State University Alumni Association and numerous committees at Nativity BVM Catholic Church. Final respects can be made from 10 to 11 a.m. followed by an 11 a.m. funeral mass on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, at The Cathedral of The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 870 Howard Avenue in Biloxi, followed by a graveside service at Southern Memorial Park, 2076 Beach Blvd., Biloxi.
