Jack Milton Curtis, Sr.

It is with profound sadness, we announce the passing of Jack M. Curtis, Sr., age 83, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, who peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 16, 2024. 

Born in Kosciusko, Mississippi, Jack grew up with a strong sense of family, faith, and hard work—values that shaped his extraordinary life. A proud graduate of Pearl High School’s Class of 1959, he furthered his education at Hinds Community College and the University of Southern Mississippi, pursuing knowledge with the same dedication he brought to every endeavor. 

Jack devoted 20 years of his life to serving his country in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant. His commitment to duty, honor, and leadership left a lasting impact on those he served alongside. He carried that same devotion into his role as Commander of the Hovias Grayson American Legion Post 112 in Jackson, Mississippi, during 2019 and 2020, where he worked tirelessly to support veterans and their families. 

Jack’s true joy in life was found in the moments shared with his loved ones. As “Gramps,” he adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, delighting in their successes and showering them with unconditional love. Jack was an avid supporter of Ole Miss football and baseball and never missed watching a game if he could help it. He was happiest with a fishing pole in his hand, reeling in bream, or sitting among family and friends, sharing stories and laughter. Jack’s life was a testament to what it means to live with kindness, integrity, and a full heart. 

He is now reunited in heaven with those he cherished who passed before him, including his parents, T. U. and Sarah Curtis; his brother, Tommy Curtis; and his nephew, Don Curtis. 

Jack’s legacy of love and devotion lives on in those he leaves behind: his children, Jay (Sheila) Curtis of Biloxi, Jinger (Roger) Bates of Ocean Springs, and Janice (Tim) Selke of Biloxi; his grandchildren, Amber (Jason) Osley, Travis (Melissa) Curtis, Destin (Yoon) Saetern, Jordan Holloway, and Lauren (Bridges) Johnson; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Caroline and Annaclaire Osley, Madelyn Kate Curtis, and Rory Saetern. He is also survived by his niece, Candy Curtis, and his loyal Australian Shepherd, Jackson, who never left his side. 

Jack’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the exceptional caregivers from Home Instead and the compassionate staff at SRHS Ocean Springs Hospital. Their unwavering kindness and care during his final days brought peace and comfort to Jack and his family. We would also like to give a special thanks to our mom, June Curtis, who was at the hospital every day showing her support, she fed us to help keep us going and for taking care of dad’s beloved dog, Jackson.

Jack “Gramps” M. Curtis, Sr. was a man of quiet strength, steadfast love, and unwavering generosity. His life was a beautiful example of what it means to give freely, love deeply, and leave the world better than you found it. His family and friends will carry his memory in their hearts forever.

A graveside service will be held at 12:30pm on Monday, December 23, 2024 at Biloxi National Cemetery.
