James A. Williams, Jr.

James A. Williams, Jr, of Long Beach passed away in his home surrounded by family on Tuesday, November 6, 2007. Mr. Williams was born in Jackson, Mississippi to James A. Williams, Sr. and Alyeene Alley Williams on January 18, 1926. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Josephine Lester Williams, and three children and children-in-law, Karen Williams Morgan and Sonny Morgan of Long Beach, James A. Williams, III (Jay) and Barbara Johnson of Gulfport, Gary Alley Williams and Kathy Williams of Picayune, Patricia Williams of Long Beach; his sister, Lillene Williams Condon and husband, Aaron Condon of Oxford, MS and brother, Dr. John E. Williams and wife, Annette Williams of Long Beach. He is also survived by four adoring grandchildren, Ben Morgan of Long Beach, Brooke Williams of Long Beach, Gary Williams, Jr. of Picayune, Jimmy Williams of Long Beach, three step-grandchildren, Nichole Hobson of Mobile, AL, Jeffrey Johnson of Gulfport, Jenni Murray of Hattiesburg, and step-great-granddaughter, McKenley Hobson of Mobile, LA. After serving in the Navy Merchany Marines during World War II, Mr. Williams attended Millsaps College in Jackson, MS. In 1949 he began working at the Mississippi State Rating Bureau and then worked for Aetna Life and Casualty. In Jackson he was a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Blue Goose Club and Mississippi Independent Insurance Agents. Mr. Williams moved to the Gulf Coast in 1970 to join the insurance agency of Stewart Sneed Hewes, where he was a partner. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Gulfport. a member of the Gulfport Chamber of Commerce, The Gulfport Yacht Club, and Mississippi Independent Insurance Agents. He was a past president of the Gulfport Rotary Club and Humane Society. He loved to spend time with his family, was a hunting enthusiast and an officer in the South Mississippi Gun Association. The family prefers memorials to First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 6012, Gulfport, MS 39506, or French Camp Academy, 1 Fine Place, French Camp, MS 39574, or African Bible College, P.O. Box 103, Clinton, MS 39060. The funeral service will be Friday, November 9, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport where friends may visit from 12:00 p.m. until the service.
