James William "Billy" Cochran, Jr.

James "Uncle Billy" Cochran, Jr., age 74, of Ocean Springs, MS passed away June 9, 2024 surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy.

Mr. Cochran blessed the world with his presence on September 13, 1949. As a proud veteran, Mr. Cochran served in the US Army, Special Forces, and 7th Infantry Batallion Division as a marksman. He received honors such as the National Defense Service and Good Conduct Medals. He was often seen around town with flags on his motorcycle and infantry stickers on his car, telling his Vietnam War stories, and his fascination with the moon and the stars. After leaving the Army, he worked at Ingall's Shipbuilding as a welder for many years. Mr. Cochran was an avid lover of plants and flowers who enjoyed working in the yard. He always remained active in his patriotic duties, attending various veteran's activities. 

Mr. Cochran was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Ruth; his parents, James and Bertha; and his brother, Gerald Cochran. 

He is survived by his siblings, Gloria Jean Manning, Donald Cochran, Catherine Latimore, Jessica (Chester) Blackmon, and Marie Cochran; his close companion, Doris and a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends. 

His family would like to thank the doctor, director, nurses and staff at the Ocean Springs Health and Rehabilitation Center and Gentiva Hospice. As Billy would say- “Everything's copacetic. Power check!”

A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, Ocean Springs. Friends may visit thirty minutes prior. Burial will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park.
