James E. Smith

1st Sgt. James E. "Smitty" Smith (US Army,Ret.), 65, of Gulfport died Tuesday, February 5, 2008 in Gulfport. Mr. Smith was born in Wheeling, WV and has been a resident of the Coast since 1985. He was retired from the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam Conflict and was a member of the VFW Post #6731 in D'Iberville. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Cecelia Smith, two brothers, Tom Smith and Ralph Smith and one sister, Freida Smith. He is survived by his son, Roy E. Smith (Karen) of Beech Island, SC, a dear friend, Chung Amacker of Poplarville, MS, a step-son, Richard Amacker (Fei) of Chicago, IL, one sister, Gladys Smith of Wheeling, WV, and one brother, Harold Smith of Clarksville, TN.
