James Samuel Genthon

James Samuel Genthon left us on September 23, 2021. He leaves behind a loving family and an unforgettable spirit. Jim, as he was known to his friends, was born on June 11, 1952. He spent his early years in Jackson, Mississippi with his parents and three sisters. Jim joined the Air Force after high school, a choice following in the footsteps of his parents who both served in World War II. His military service took him to Thailand where he repaired electronic systems on F-4’s and fell in love with the country and its charm. His service began a lifetime of travel and adventure which led him to many places over the years such as Israel and New Zealand. Jim also loved New Orleans, where he lived much of his adult life. He played tour guide for any visitor who was willing to listen to his stories about the city’s history and he knew all the best restaurants and bars. Of course his truest love was rugby, a sport he first saw in England. Jim played rugby for decades in Jackson and New Orleans and coached rugby at a number of schools and clubs. Rugby gave him true joy, whether coaching, playing, watching or even reading about it. James spent many years as a single father to his daughter Sharmel, forming a life-long bond that cannot be broken, even by death. Through marriage and life he also added Jawnee, Tiffany and Stephanie to his family and became a Pepaw to his four grandchildren. His entire family will remember how hard he loved them, how he moved to the music and how he stood ready to rescue anyone who needed rescuing. His large frame could hardly contain his generous heart and his joyous laughter will always ring in our ears. Memorial services are yet to be determined but certain to include a glass of Jack Daniels. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport, MS is honored to serve the Genthon family.
